FALL in Threes - This week's TTT Challenge

Well, FALL is officially here in the US. I'm not sure where you live, but our leaves here in Michigan are beginning to change color, the days are becoming shorter and cooler, the football season has arrived and we've already made one crock pot of chili - Yep, FALL has arrived!!

I love FALL! In my area of the world, we get to enjoy the beautiful FALL colors - the leaves change into beautiful rainbow of reds, yellows and oranges. The best part of FALL in my book - DECORATING (especially for Halloween) which is what my hubby was so kind to help me do this past weekend! That means carving pumpkins and little ghosts and goblins trick or treating.

So for today's Terrifically Thrilling Thursday Challenge, I want you to create a card, layout or project that has the FALL theme and the little twist - it must have at least THREE of something on it. The choice is yours.
Here is the FALL IN THREES Challenge project I created -
Three Pumpkins, Three Bits of Bling and Three Layers of matting.
* You can use any digital image you like, when you use an image from Shelly's Images you will enter this contest twice!
* NEW WORKS only Please - No backlinking to older posts
* Enter your great work of art with Inlinkz below!

Have a chance to be our TTT Challenge Winner of the Week!!
We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thrifty Tuesday Tutorial

Happy Tuesday All!

I've got a super fun little tutorial to share with you today.  Get out those used dryer sheets - NO, we're not doing laundry (that's overrated!).  Get out your circle or circle scalloped nesties/punches, a fun little brad you love and some glimmer mist/or ink.

What are we making with these dryer sheets if we're not doing laundry - well, this tutorial is gonna have you looking forward to pulling the laundry outta the dryer (whether or not you get it folded, that's an entirely different story)

FABULOUS little THRIFTY FLOWERS!
As I'm sure you figured out from last week's tutorial - I LOVE recycling, reusing or repurposing items

Let's get started!
First you'll want to stack together a few dryer sheets - don't worry if they're all krinkled - it'll add character to your flower (you can also use tulle too).
Cut your dryer sheets (I like using my nesties to cut these - super quick, super simple)
You'll want to cut them in a few different sizes because we'll layer them a little later.
I cut three different sizes for this one and four of each size.
Once you have your circles or scalloped circles cut, you'll want to color them the color you'd like with either ink or glimmer mist.
I usually toss my dryer sheets into a plastic bag bag and spritz with my glimmer mist.
Once your dryer sheets are dry, stack your circles and using a cropadile or punch - put a small hole in the middle, install your brad and get to usin' these beauties!!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Hugs

TTT for this week

Let's play a new game this week!

I'm ready do some playing again. How about you???
The weather over here is real autumn. Wet and Windy.
The leaves on the trees are starting to color to yellow and red.
A beautiful sight when the sun shines on them…
But in a few weeks the trees are empty and nature is preparing itself for winter.

My card this week for this challenge is inspired on what I see outside and I added TAGS to it. So this weeks challenge is going to about TAGS.

I used the airbrush and a screen to make the background of this card. I used different colors of brown and green.
The image is called:  Nuts about you
Nuts About You

Next to that I made two tags and used two of Shelly’s Freebies on them.
The Acorn, the Maple leaf and the Oak leaf.
You can find those lovely freebies HERE.

I hope you will join us in this great challenge and make sure to check out all the great images in Shelly’s Images STORE and show us your fabulous and creative cards, layouts or projects!

With love

Happy Survivor Wednesday - oops, I mean Happy Fab Follower Day!  :)
Shelly and I are big Survivor fans and so happy that this season of survivor has started (even if they've confused us and changed the day from Thursday to Wednesday).

Today we want to celebrate our First Fall Fab Follower of the Week -
Drum Roll Please -
April of April's Alley
If you haven't taken a stroll through April's blog, you really should.  I just LOVE all her FALL like themed projects and she has one of the neatest card folds I've seen lately.

Happy Technique Tuesday

Happy Tuesday all!  I've got a little Penny Pinching Technique for you.
I don't know about you, but it never seems to fail - I need something for a layout or card and it just so happens to be the totally WRONG color.
And while it would be fabulous to be able to purchase something in every color I think I'd ever need, I have lots of items that with a little modification, it works just perfect.
For instance - I have all these great borders, unfortunately they're all bazzill ORANGE.  Great if I want an orange border, not so great if I need something other than ORANGE.
Well, the nice thing is with a little paint or ink - you can make it ANY color you want!
Just like I did here.
If you can do this with borders, imagine what else you can do it with and not spend a dime!
That's our little Penny Pinching Technique for this Tuesday!
Give it a try!
Hugs!

Marvelous Monday

Have a Witchy Marvelous Monday!

Here's another monday...
Days a flying by. I'm running around preparing things... go to the hospital and make cards for the blogs. And suddenly I realize that the evenings are there early... and that we are approching October already. Before you know it Halloween and thanksgiving are close by!

I'm so glad that Shelly's Images has her Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas images ready to work with. That keeps me on track with the hectic days.

Today we would love to put a spotlight on this wonderful and sweet image that is called:

Good Witch

Now is this little girl sweet or what? I had a great time coloring her...
but was in trouble cause we don't have halloween papers over here in The Netherlands.
I am so lucky that I have an Airbrush on loan so I could make my own background papers.

Here's a Good Witch from Min who LOVES to celebrate Halloween :)

And this fabulous card is made by Scrappy

And I overlooked the card from Sammi,
I apologize to you for this.  Here is the fabulous and wonderful card she made!

Hope you will go to the store and see what more fabulous halloween images Shelly has ready for you in THE STORE

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to enter our great challenge!

A Special Terrifically Thrilling Thursday Challenge!

As we mentioned a little bit yesterday in our Fab Follower of the Week post,

I'm sure we all KNOW someone who is a War Hero - either active or a veteran.
Heck, you might even have one of these SPECIAL people in your family!
I know we do, both active AND veteran War Heroes.
My dad, My Father-in-Law, My Grandfather, My Cousins Son, My Husbands Cousin.
It's these Men & Women who keep our freedoms and way of life SAFE!

So, we at Shelly's Images are VERY EXCITED to have partnered up with Operation Write Home this week to help them with their September Celebration!!
What BETTER way to CELEBRATE than with BIRTHDAY CARDS!
And the best thing - you can send these cards to Operation Write Home and they will go to a War Hero who will in turn use your card to send to a loved one at home.

How exciting is that? You can help our War Heroes keep in touch with their loved ones from thousands of miles away?!
If you haven't participated in making cards for Operation Write Home before, you can get details HERE about OWH and 'guidelines' for making cards.

A few important things to remember when making cards to use for OWH -
No Glitter - as much as we all LOVE glitter (and I'm one who does), glitter can be dangerous if it flakes off.
Card size - Cards should be 4.5" x 5.5"
No Store bought cards (I'm sure I didn't need to include this as we're card makers, but just a little FYI)
Quality over Quantity - 1 card or 100 cards, they are all appreciated.
Stamp or Write "Operation Write Home" on the back of your card
Be sure to check out all the details of OWH so your amazing creations can make a child or spouse smile when they receive it from a loved one who is far from home keeping the world safe! Once your cards are finished just send them off to a shipper near you. The shipper addresses can be found here.

We want to see your birthday cards - we'd love to have you use Shelly's Images, but any image will do.
Leave a comment in this post with a link to your creations.
Next Friday, we'll take ALL the entries and pick one winner to win an image of their choice from Shelly's Images. It's a win-win for everyone!!
We can't wait to see what you create to send to our War Heros!!
Hugs!

It's Topper Time on Technique Tuesday!

Hello everyone, I'm here to share with you my first ever tutorial. (Be gentle with me, I'm already nervous about never having done a tutorial before)

Since we are featuring Halloween images this month at Shelly's Images, I thought it would be great to do a Halloween favor tutorial.

Aren't these just too cute?! They are very quick and simple to do, and would be great favors for the kiddies to take to school for Halloween favors.

Supplies You will need:

Digi Images from Shelly's Images
markers, Chalks or another coloring medium
Paper Cutter
Exacto Knife
Pencils or dowels
*If using dowels, you will need to cut them to the desired length for your project.

Instructions:

1. Color your digi images.

2. Cut digi images into 3" blocks, or whatever size is appropriate for the image.

3. At the top of each image block, use exacto knife to cut a slit, (about 5/8" down from the top edge)
horizantally across the center of the image. The slit should be approximately 1 1/2" across.

4. Now, do the same cut, about 5/8" up from the bottom edge. Again, your cut should be horizontally,
approximately 1 1/2" across

*Note: You may need to alter the size of your cuts, depending on what is proportionate to the size of your image

5. Slide your pencil or dowel rod through the two slits your image, and there you have your pencil/dowel topper.
(You may slide your pencil in under or over the tab, depending on which looks best with your images. I have
done both ways, in the pic above, based on how I felt the image looked best.)

These would also be great made with dowel rods and then stuck into a ball of styrofoam in a cute bucket or pot, to make table centerpieces.

I'd love to see what other creative projects you come up with, using the toppers

9/13/10 Marvelous Monday

Whoooo Hooo! It's that time, again! Time for Marvelous Monday at Shelly's Images. I'm both nervous and excited, because this is my first time hosting as a new member of the Shelly's Images DT.

September's featured images are from the Halloween Collection at Shelly's Images. Check out all these awesome images to celebrate Halloween. You may purchase the images individually or save money by buying the entire Halloween collection! Perfect for making cards or other Halloween projects. (Now I'm going to tease you a little.... Check back tomorrow for my tutorial--Think Halloween favors).

This week, for Marvelous Monday, we are featuring the image Fright Night. I love this image. It reminds me of dressing up for Halloween as a kid. Actually, I used to love to dress up for Halloween as an adult, too, and give out candy to the kids. Too bad we don't get trick or treaters here, where I live now. I miss dressing up! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays!

Now, let's see some creative inspiration from the wonderful DT:

9-7 Technique Tuesday

In today's tough economic times, we stampers are not able to stretch our stamping dollars like we used to. We love the effects of many of the products out there, but the price is prohibitive! Erm...you also may run out of what you need at 2 am like I do, so these 3 tips might be worth noting!!

My solution? GO CHEAP! That's right, why not make your own 'designer' products at a fraction of the price?

I am not knocking the amazing products out there! I use many of them too! They work great and are easy to pick up in most craft stores or online. However, if you don't mind making a bit of mess, and doing a little bit extra to save the money, then check out my ideas below!

To make your own FRUGAL 'Faux Flock', all you need is some CHEAP felt, a stiff brush, a clothes shaver, and a few containers to keep your 'faux flock' in! You brush the felt pretty hard with the brush to raise the nap before applying the shaver to it! Collecting in the tiny shaver bin is your very cheap wooly flock. It's ready to use whenever you are ready for it!

Note: I suggest you use spray adhesive with this flock as it applies more evenly, you use very little, and there is MUCH less 'flock dust' all over your work area! A slightly moistened q-tip works very well to apply the flock to your work.

To make your own 'Shimmery Spray Mist', you can get a few mini misters and add 2 or 3 tiny scoops of mica powder or Pearl Ex. Add equal amounts of liquid hairspray (if you use the mica powder), and water. Add a few drops of food coloring (if desired) and voila - Shimmering spray mist.

Note: Be sure to shake them side to side (or roll them on their sides slowly) when blending the Pearl Ex to avoid clogging. Shaking them up and down forces large particles of shimmer into the sprayer making it difficult - if not impossible to use. The hairspray sets the Mica Powder. You won't need it if you use Pearl Ex.

When you have a VERY SPENDY 'Alcohol based blender pen' dry out it can be VERY inconvenient! Especially when you don't have a re-inker! In a pinch...Vodka works! No...not for you to drink! To wet your blender pen nib!

Note: Use the Vodka sparingly! Not only because you may need a nip later...but also because you don't want to overly wet your project and have the inks run all together.

We hope these tips will help you out of whatever jam you may be in, whether it's financial, that you're out of it, or in a time crunch! Be sure to share your own Frugal ideas with us here at Shelly's Images too! We can't wait to hear from you!

HINT: We hear that digi stamps are also cheaper too! You can get many more digi images for the same price as a single stamp, and storage is a cinch too!
