On the 7th Day Of Christmas

Welcome to another fun day in our 12 Days of Christmas Event!

Christmas dinner is such a wonderful tradition for family and friends to visit and spend time together. When I was a little girl, my father's entire family met at Grandma's house for Christmas dinner and the exchanging of gifts. Of course, Santa would always show up, too!

Today, on the seventh day of Christmas, we're starting our own tradition, and we're inviting all of you to join us! Today is our big virtual Christmas dinner, and we'd love for all of our followers and friends to join us and bring a favorite dish! (If you'd like to include the recipe, that would be even better! Maybe Santa or one of his elves will even compile them all into a downloadable cookbook for us, too, if we're all good little crafters!)

Christmas Dinner just has to include Ham or turkey, or it just wouldn't be Christmas! Since we are hosting this fabulous dinner, it's only fair that Shelly's Images provide the turkey!

Mmmmmm and what a yummy looking turkey it is!

Now, for my contribution, I'm bringing dessert. Yes, yes, I know, we need some side dishes, too. I'm counting on the rest of you to bring those! I absolutely have to bring a no bake cheesecake, because it is a tradition in our house. If I don't make cheesecake for Christmas, I would have lots of frustrated hungry relatives on my hands who feel like they've been cheated if they don't get their cheesecake! Usually, I make three varieties, plain, cherry topped and blueberry topped. Today, I am bringing a plain cheesecake and toppings on the side, so that you can top it with whatever you like!

This cheesecake if very light and fluffy and people usually love it. If you've never tried it, you really need to! It is so so so yummy!

And for those of you who want to make it yourself, at home, here's the recipe:

No Bake Cheesecake

Ingredients:

1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1 cup sour cream
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 8 oz. tub of Cool Whip, thawed
1 graham cracker crust
1 can of cherry pie filling

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese with mixer on medium speed till fluffy. Add sour cream, sugar and vanilla; Beat until combined. Fold in whipped topping, then spread into crust.

Top with Cherry Pie filling. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or until set.

Now that I have made you all hungry, who else is coming to our virtual Christmas dinner?! Tell us you're joining us and what you are bringing for dinner!

  4. Mmmmmm, Thank goodness for elastic waist pants!! :)
I was never much of a sauerkraut fan until I married into a Polish family, so it's only fitting that I bring the "'Basa & Kraut" (kielbasa & sauerkraut if you live outside our family).

This is a great crack pot - er, crock pot fix it and forget it till dinner recipe -

I start with 5 pounds of Smoked Kielbasa from Dearborn Sausage in Detroit Michigan. Cut into 1/2 inch slices
    3-32 oz cans of Sauerkraut
1/4 c. Brown Sugar (give or take)
    Caraway Seeds
    Water

Drain & Wash Sauerkraut (I wash it and squeeze it REAL well to get rid of the SOUR part of Sauerkraut).
Place washed kraut in crock pot, Place chopped up kielbasa in crock pot, sprinkle with caraway seeds and 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Add water till crock is about 1/2 filled.
Turn Crock Pot on 6-7 hours on low.

I make this for every holiday - my BIL who is a bachelor and lives out of town, ALWAYS brings his Tupperware containers so he can take left overs home every holiday.

  9. Here's my contribution:

    Sandi's Shrimp Sauté - from Sandi's Kitchen
    Quick & Easy
    20 minutes total time
    *Serves One

    Ingredients:
    2 Tbsps. Butter
    Pinch of garlic powder
    1 tsp. Lemon Juice
    1 Shallot chopped
    1 1/2 tsps. Tomato Paste
A pinch or 2 of Black pepper
6 or 7 Medium cleaned raw shrimp
Melt the butter in a sauté or frying pan. Sprinkle a pinch of garlic powder in melted butter. Add chopped shallot and sauté until opaque, over medium to low heat. Add the lemon juice, tomato paste, and black pepper. Stir well and sauté for 30 seconds. Move shallots to the side of the pan and add the shrimp. When the shrimp turn pink, approximately 2 minutes, turn to cook other side. Move the shallots back in to the shrimp and mix together while cooking. Serve immediately over cooked basmati rice.

*Adjust amounts for more servings. Since my husband doesn't eat seafood, this was created for 1 person. I didn't have any garlic on hand, otherwise I would have used minced garlic instead of the powder. Also, I use tomato paste from a squeeze tube.

  11. I realize that I am late with this, but I just thought I'd put in my contribution to dinner. You just can't have a turkey without stuffing and I am going to give you my stuffing recipe :D

This recipe is part my grandma's and part mine...hope you like it.

    Grandma's Stuffing

1 lb ground turkey (grandma used hamburger)
    1 Med. onion diced
    1 cup fine bread crumbs
    1 clove garlic (diced)
Cut up pieces of craisins (or you can add them whole.I add these to taste...usually about 1/4 cup)
Salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, to taste

Fry the ground turkey (or hamburger if you prefer)and onion together. Just before it's finished frying, add your garlic (the less you cook it the more flavour it keeps)and other seasonings. With water beside you start adding your bread crumbs. Add small amounts of water as needed to keep it moist. Add your craisins and then stuff into turkey and cook.

If you would prefer not to put your stuffing in your turkey, make up 2 boxes of turkey stove top stuffing with the craisins added. Add the cooked ground turkey, onion, garlic (cooked as above) and then serve on the side.
