Technique Tuesday

Embossing with Ink

I love to emboss papers. But sometimes I want them to have another color so they match better with the colors that I used in my coloring.
So I take my Big Shot by Sizzix and an embossing folder
I take the inkpad I want and start coloring the side with the increased pattern and rub the inkpad softly over the pattern. Make sure to to add pressure otherwise you color the underground as well.

Then place the paper on the normal way in the embossing folder…

And run the folder through the machine. Make sure to do it slow and give the ink the time to get into the paper. You might run the embossing folder several times through the machine without lifting it out of it’s place!

After you take the mal out you can clean it the way you clean your embossing folder the way you clean your stamps.

You can do the same technique, but then work on the imprinted side of the embossing folder!
Here are both results. You can also use other dies to cut shapes from this papers.

Have fun and make sure to show your results with this technique!

Terrifically Thrilling Thursday Challenge

A new TTT is here!

Last week was a strange week with a lot of things going on at home and with the family.

My parents were married for 51 years last wednesday and they took us out to dinner
to a lovely Italian restaurant in my village.
The food there is so special and traditional Italian food. Most of those recipe's are told from parent to child and we other folks will never know how some things are made.
We can only dream of knowing the secret ingredients of the tasty dishes!
So I thought that we would have a challenge with a recipe!

You know with a little bit of papers and a little bit of embellishments and of course the main ingredient: A digital Image!
And where else than at Shelly's Images Store
can you find the most wonderful and inspiring images.
Even in the Kidz Korner and
the Freebie zone you can find fabulous images to work with.
So this week I want to ask you to cook the following recipe:

1. Image from Shelly's Images
2. no more than 2 design papers
3. no more than 3 embellisments
4. Your card must be new and no back linking to previous post!

This image was a Freebie at our CDAC group as well not so long ago! Be sure to join us there because we have so much fun chatting and crafting there.

In case you missed it I will add it here for you.

The winner will get a fabulous prize from Shelly's Images!
This contest will run till Wednesday September 1st 11:59 pm.
The winner will be announced Thursday morning at 6:00 am.
You can claim your prize one week from then.

I hope you have a lot of fun and I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Background stamping Sky

Today's Tutorial is about creating a stamped background sky behind your image.

I choose the beautiful image Swan Love from Shelly's Images.
You can find this lovely image HERE

Print and color the image.
Print the image again on plain white paper.

Cut out the second printed image.

Mask the colored image with the plain one.

At www.shellysimages.com you find a free image of clouds.
Print it out on firm cardstock and cut it out.
Place the clouds over the masked image and work the edges with the stamping ink.
Replace the cloud and ink again. You can use various colors to create a cloudy sky.

Here is the result after inking the background.
I used some yellow to create a sunrise feeling.
Save the cut out mask for the next time!

I made a loopy lace gift box with the image in it.
This is a different kind of wedding card.

Hope you all like this technique and give it a try and show us at the CDAC Group!

Thanks for looking and leaving a lovely comment.

DIAMOND DUST TUTORIAL

Happy Tuesday everyone! I have a simple tutorial to share with you today. Unfortunately, I cannot get my finished card picture to turn out very well - something with the lighting I'm using and I just am not that experienced of a photographer to figure it out.

Today is a technique that I've heard called diamond dust and it's very simple and the results are cool:)
Supplies needed: Clear embossing or diamond embossing powder. I used JudiKins Iridescent sparkle. Versa mark ink and embossing gun.

Color and cut out your image. I used this FABULOUS images from SHELLY'S IMAGES.

Ink entire image with Versa Mark - make sure it's all covered.

Next, cover image with embossing powder

Heat with embossing gun until powder has completely melted. You're left with a cool sparkly image:)
Here's my finished project, as I said, just couldn't get the lighting right, but I hope you get a feel for how cool it can really look. I hope you enjoyed this!!

Terrifically Thrilling Thursday Challenge

Happy Thursday!! One more day and we've made it to the weekend! WOO HOO!!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for last week's TTT Challenge! You all make such amazing projects!!
I'm not sure about all of you, but in our family, we LOVE LOVE LOVE RECIPE books. We collect recipes from all over. My hubby and I can sit on the deck and flip thru a food magazine or recipe book and all is right with the world! We LOVE to try new foods, to try new things and to share those things with family and friends when we entertain.

You may be asking yourself - "SELF - why is this crazy lady talking about FOOD when this is a scrappy blog?"
(yep, I have conversations with mySELF like this on a regular basis)
Aside from the fact that it's terribly HOT here in Michigan this week and the humidity is taxing on the brain, I'm talking about recipes because I love a great SCRAPPY RECIPE!

And that's what this week's challenge is - a little Scrappy Recipe challenge.
So, get out the following scrappy supplies and show us what you got!
Ribbon, BLING and Embossing
(dry or stamping embossing).

Below is a quickie little Recipe card I put together using one of this week's highlighted "HAPPY HOUR" images from Shelly's Images.

And, as you can see, I used a bit of the paper I created during this past Tuesday's Tutorial.
Kind of fun, huh?
(Sorry for the bad photo - I got a little snap happy and the glaze wasn't quite dry yet - Might have to take a little better photo once it dries).

Just a few rules...
~ No Backlinking! We want to see your NEW cards only! That's what makes it a challenge, right?
~ Please enter your challenges using the InLinks widget below.
~ We do ask that you turn off Word Moderation and use comment moderation so our Design Team can easily leave comments. We enjoy leavin' you love for takin' the time to join our challenge.

Feel free to combine challenges or even enter multipe cards or projects. We love to see what you do!!

Thanks so much for playin' with us this week!!
Hugs!
~Min~

Congratulations to...

Looks like the THRILLINGLY TERRIFIC THURSDAY this week was a great one! We've looked at all of your wonderful entries and love them all! It would be an impossible decision to choose just one of your fabu creations - which is fine - because we leave it to Random.org to choose a winner! The winner this week of the 'This Place is a Zoo' challenge is:

Jana, please head over to the SI SHOP, choose your digi, and email your selection to Shelly to claim it! Thanks so much to all of you for playing along this week! We hope you will be back for this weeks new TTT challenge!

Fab Follower of the Week!

Happy Wednesday and welcome to this week's edition of Fab Follower of the week!

This week we'd like to give a little shout out to Tammy from My Craft Central Blog

What a fabulously AWESOME blog Tammy has!! Not only do I absolutely love the WHIMSY of her blog design, but her creations are just terrific. The images she uses just make me GRIN!

Two cards that I ran across and just love were in the "My Three Dad's" post.

I just LOVE the dad getting sprayed by the hose by the little girl and the two laughing cactus (or is it cacti? - did I even spell it right??)

Anyway, if you haven't stopped by Tammy's blog, stop by, enjoy the inspiration and leave her a little Love!

Congrats for being our Fab Follower of the Week this week Tammy!

We're so glad to have you!

Hugs!

~Min~

Makin' it YOU this Technique Tuesday!

I don't know about you, but sometimes when I'm creating, I'm very particular about the papers I use. I always want to find the PERFECT printed paper to use. I can't tell you how many times I've looked for HOURS to find that AH HA paper....and then it hit me

{insert Min slapping forehead and LIGHT BULB coming on here! DOH!}.

Heck, with digi stamps (or regular stamps for that matter), you can MAKE your OWN PERFECT PRINTED PAPERS!!!

How do you do that? Well, let me give you a little crash course - get on those helmets and get those digi or stamped images out. Let's go!

For digi-image paper - open a program like MS Power Point or Publisher. I tend to use both, but I'll show you in Power Point since Publisher is an extra program that not everyone has.

If you want to use this technique to make paper with regular stamps - kind of follow the instructions but you don't need you computer, just your ink pad, stamp and paper.

Step 1 - Pick the 'background' image you plan to use.

I picked the Birthday Cupcake Image from Shelly's Images Store that I'm going to modify to fit for my project.

Step 2 - Adjust the part of the image you plan to use.

I'm going to use this paper for a little background paper for this week's TTT Challenge with the new Happy Hour Images, therefore, I decided to use the cherry part of the cupcake image. This is the point where I crop to get rid of the cupcake and candle. This is where I also resized the image to work with what I have planned.

Step 3 - Copy, Paste, Rotate and Flip the amount of images you'll need for your paper.

I wanted to make sure I had a little extra just in case I wanted or needed more.

Step 4 - Once you're satisfied with the background you've created, print that baby out and get colorin'!
I can't show you the finished product yet, you'll have to be sure to check back in on Thursday for this week's TTT Challenge. ;o)
Give this a try and I am SURE once you get the hang of it, you'll be makin' your own paper ALL THE TIME!! I know I do!

Feel free to leave comments if you have questions - I know this was a pretty high-level 'simple' tutorial, but I hope you enjoyed it and learned something new today. I'm happy to help you out if I can!
Happy Creatin'!
Hugs!
~Min~
